Purchased by Lawrence and Violet Baynton-Williams in a sale room for £76 in 1945. They then gave it to their daughter Priscilla, my mother. In the early 1990s my sister, Jenny Harrington, used this chest of drawers. It came into my possession in January 2007.
The photos show the chest of drawers before restoration. Restoration is being carried at at Corwell www.corwell.co.uk in Reading, Berkshire, who offer an expert antique furniture restoration service.
“Jacobean” refers to the various aspects of the period of English history that coincides with the reign of James I, 1603–1625. James I was the first monarch of England from the House of Stuart, succeeding the last Tudor monarch, Elizabeth I.
